If you’ve been struggling playing the part of the best version of you, The Mask Experiment is your way in.
I first learned about mask work from Academy Award winning actor, Kevin Spacey, who uses masks in his Masterclass. In that class after an actor performed his or her monologue, often times Mr. Spacey would pick up a mask, hand it to the actor and say: “Now put this on…” Every time, the monologue was infinitely better. Why? Because with the mask on, the actor let go of any resistance to becoming the character and instead embraced the freedom to transform.
HOW THE MASK EXPERIMENT CAN HELP YOU
- It will give you permission to be the best version of you.
- It will give you a sense of freedom to explore what that feels like.
- It will give you insight about how the best version of you thinks, talks, moves…
- It will help you let go of resistance.
- It will give you confidence to ACT AS IF each and every day.
HOW TO PERFORM THE MASK EXPERIMENT
You will need a neutral mask and a mirror (full length preferred) or you can use your phone.
- Stand in front of a mirror and put on your mask.*
- Take a few moments to get into the headspace of the version of you who is already living the life you want. Then choose a setting and mentally place yourself in it e.g. a boardroom, a restaurant, fashion week, a university, sitting behind the wheel of your new car or standing inside your new home…
- When you’re ready, begin to have a conversation in your out loud voice (this may be a conversation with yourself, with a friend, employer, perhaps it’s an acceptance speech, a toast, maybe you’re talking to your children…)…
- Move around, allow yourself to roll with whatever comes out of your mouth…
- Notice the way you are moving, the tone of your voice…
- There is no time limit so keep going; push yourself to really embrace this version of you.
- Afterward, take some notes about the experience.
- Begin to incorporate some of the physical attributes and characteristics that came out while doing The Mask Experiment and incorporate them into your daily life.
- Repeat steps 1 – 8 every seven days or as often as you like!
- Watch for signs of things in your life beginning to shift dramatically.
*Avoid touching your mask once you’ve put it on because it breaks the illusion.
The Mask Experiment is not only free, easy and fun, it’s a solid step in the right direction to becoming your very best self. 🙂 The truth is, “We never know what we’re made of until we go for it.”(Kevin Spacey) It’s time to put on a mask and find out!
Until next time, remember: YOU DESERVE TO HAVE A LIFE YOU LOVE.
POST a comment and SHARE a selfie of you in your mask!
